COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

The project to renovate McEuen Field in Coeur d'Alene is just about to get underway with groundbreaking for the controversial project coming this Monday.

Crews already have the green light to start work and some of the first construction will happen south of city hall. There crews will be expanding the parking lot from 65 spots to 173.

Then they will build a connecting trail between the new parking lot and the base of Tubbs Hill so people can walk back and forth. All of this construction should be done in 90 days.

About half of the parking lot near the boat launch will be removed and part of it will eventually become park space.

In the future there will be more parking along and under Front Street. Overall the McEuen project will increase the number of parking spots in the downtown area to more than 700.
