When you injure the brain, anything can happen.
and so you can be paralyzed from the neck down.
You can lose the ability to feed yourself, to go to
the bathroom by yourself and be kind of a vegetable.
ROBYN HITCOCK IS AN E-R EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN.
SHE ISN'T RELATED TO THIS TEEN'S CASE.
BUT SAYS HEAD INJURIES CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS.
SHE SAYS MANY YOUNG PEOPLE PERFORM ACTIONS THAT COULD
GET THEM SERIOUSLY INJURED.
BUT DON'T THINK OF THE CONSEQUENCES.
:42 - :46
It's a really unpleasant things, but kids with their
underdeveloped frontal lobes don't want to believe
that, which is really sad.
THE COEUR D'ALENE SCHOOL DISTRICT COULDN'T CONFIRM
THE TEEN'S IDENTITY BECAUSE OF HIS AGE.
BUT SAYS HE WAS A STUDENT AT COEUR D'ALENE HIGH SCHOOL.
HITCHCOCK SAYS SHE SEES A LOT OF INJURIES FROM YOUNG
PEOPLE WHO MAKE POOR DECISIONS.
BUT SAYS TEENS JUST NEED TO THINK BEFORE THEY ACT.
:25 - :28
Engage your frontal lobe, wear a helmet, and get out
there and have fun.

That young man is at Sacred Heart with a head injury.
