HEAVY RAIN IN THE NORTHEAST MOUNTAINS HAS EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS ON ALERT AS WATER CONTINUES TO
CAUSE HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS.
KXLY 4'S AARON LUNA WORKING FOR YOU TONIGHT .
SHOWING DRIVERS WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR.
Most of the ground here in Bonner County is still
fairly frozen so all that rain that we're getting
is washing off.
Combine that with some snow melt and you'll get erosion
like we're seeing here off West Pine Rd.
Emergency management says this is the biggest problem,
erosion and flooding of streets and roads.
THE RAIN KEEPS FALLING AND THE CALLS KEEP COMING.
Bonner County Public Works and Emergency Management
this is Michelle.
HEAVY RUN OFF AND SNOW MELT CAUSING HAVOC ON THE ROADWAYS
SAYS BONNER COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR BOB
And we have the addresses and what the situation is,
MOST OF PROBLEMS RIGHT NOW ARE ON COUNTY ROADS.
With frost and mud and plugged culverts and storm
water systems that won't drain it builds up water
and water goes over the road ways,
A BACKED UP CULVERT CAUSED FLOODING AT THE PONDERAY
MOBILE HOME PARK YESTERDAY.
THE WATER IS NOW BACK DOWN BUT IN OTHER AREAS OF THE
COUNTY SOME DRIVERWAYS ARE CLOSE TO IMPASSIBLE.
FOR NOW IT LOOKS WORSE THAN IT IS.
Inconveinience and road hazard.
There's no major damage,
HOWARD SAYS SNOWMELT WILL LIKELY HAPPEN FOR THE NEXT
STREAMS AND RIVERS WILL BE PUSHING THEIR BANKS.
THE VERY COLD WATER DANGEROUS FOR ANYONE TRYING TO
THE SAME GOES FOR LOW CLEARANCE CARS.
BETTER TO FIND A WAY AROUND THAN GET STUCK OR SWEPT
SOMETHING TO WATCH OUT FOR EVERY YEAR AROUND THIS
We've had lighter years and we've had worse years
so this is kind of a moderate,
MODERATE OR LIGHT, IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO PLAY IT SAFE
AND SLOW WHEN IT COMES TO WATER ON THE ROADWAYS.
Emergency Management says they'll be monitoring areas
like this at least until Wednesday.
