POST FALLS, Idaho - On Monday, Post Falls' first Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen opened. Suffice to say, it was an instant hit.
Local Post Falls resident, B. Kauffman, recounted the seemingly endless stream of people through an email and pictures that he sent to KXLY 4 News.
At 10:30 a.m. the restaurant opened. By 11:35, over thirty cars waiting to use the drive thru were backing up traffic on northbound Idaho State Highway 41.
Kauffman recounts that Popeye's customers filled every available parking spot in the mini-mall next door, leaving nowhere for customers of Slick Rock Spa, J&K Nails, Post Falls Sports Nutrition, and Breesnee's State Farm office to park.
At around 12:30 p.m., Post Falls Police Department posted a warning on Facebook about the traffic backed up on Hwy 41. The PFPD also commented with a video explaining the highway markings and the rules of Idaho highways.
On Monday evening, Kauffman counted around 40 vehicles backed up on the road. More than half of the vehicles had WA license plates. The interior of the restaurant was full; a long line of people snaked its way around tables.
On Tuesday morning, while passing by the new establishment, Kauffman noticed police and damaged vehicles in the same area. Although the new restaurant has attracted many people from around the area, this serves as a good reminder to remember the rules of the road and that “authentic” Louisiana style food can wait.
The Popeyes restaurant is located on 767 N Neufeld Ln in Post Falls. It's open 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m.-11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
