SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga students camp out to get the best seat at the men's basketball game against Loyola Marymount. They want to be front and center if GU wins and, hopefully, advances into the top five rankings.
Students starting camping out for the game early Saturday morning, despite the 32 degree weather.
"Ah, I can't wait," said Gonzaga freshman Zack Jankelson. "I really can't wait. (Camping out) is definitely worth it. There's something about being in the front row and being able to rush out on the court, being on the big screen all the time. It's a lot of fun."Zag fans excited for big LMU game
Gonzaga took on LMU about a week ago and beat them by 45 points. If and when the No. 6 ranked Bulldogs beat the Lions, they could move up in the rankings as high as number three. The teams that are ranked No. 1, 2, 3, and 5 all lost this week. If GU moves up to number three, the Zags would tie their highest-ever ranking, from the 2003-04 season.
"Being in the top five would be super nice," said Gonzaga student Angela Balistreri. "I just feel like each year we keep getting better and with the support of the fans, it's really helpful."
"It's nice to finally get some national recognition," said Jankelson. "I know GU is a big name school, but to finally prove that a mid-major can be in the top five... it's awesome. Hopefully Gonzaga gets the respect it deserves from here on out."
