WSU to unveil new center

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University on Saturday will dedicate its new Paul G. Allen Center for Global Animal Health, a research facility intended to help halt the spread of deadly diseases from animals to humans.

Allen, a co-founder of Microsoft, donated $26 million for the building, while the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donated $25 million.

The building is a centerpiece of WSU's effort to expand into a new field of research by creating the School of Global Animal Health.

Construction wrapped up at the end of July, and several researchers have already moved into the building.
