Two juveniles have been arrested in Spokane Valley after they allegedly assaulted the mother of one of them with the intent to kill her and eat her liver.
Deputies responded to a home in the 13300 block of East Mission Avenue at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday to find a woman on her bed, bloody with two knives and a sword on the bed next to her.
During their investigation they could find no signs of forced entry into the home and determined the suspects in the assault were the woman's 13-year-old son and his 14-year-old friend.
The deputies then went to the home of the 14-year-old and spoke with the teen's father, who said he thought his son was spending the night with his friend. At this point he realized his 2005 Dodge Durango was missing along with the keys to it, which he kept hung inside the garage.
As they were speaking with the boy's father, the deputies received a call for a hit-and-run collision at 7800 E. Alki Ave. When they arrived at the Circle J Mobile Home Park they found the 2005 Dodge Durango had hit the side of a mobile home. Its engine was still running but no one was around.
While a K-9 team searched the vicinity of the mobile home park for the suspects, deputies received another call that there was a burglary in the vicinity of 8900 E. Boone Ave., where two subjects were spotted breaking into a home.
When they arrived at the home, deputies found signs of forced entry into the residence as well as severe damage inside. A Washington State Patrol trooper who responded to the scene spotted two males running away from the home and the K-9 team was called away from the mobile home park to the home that was burglarized.
The K-9 team successfully found the two teens hiding near the home.
Once they were taken into custody, the assault victim's 13-year-old son said his friend had tried to kill his mom with a sword, having talked him into killing his mom because he had been taking "blue pills." He added that his friend wanted to kill his mom and eat her liver.
He blamed the incident on his friend's drug use and said he would have never done that sober.
The 14-year-old also admitted to deputies he attempted to kill his friend's mom.
"Yeah, this is strange," Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy Craig Chamberlin said. "The 13-year-old talked to deputies on the scene and said it was their complete intent to kill the mother, initially they were going to stab her with the two knives we located at the crime scene and then choose to use the handle of the sword."
Both teens were booked into juvenile detention for second degree assault, taking a motor vehicle without permission, residential burglary, malicious mischief and second degree hit and run.
The victim, meanwhile, is in stable condition at a Spokane-area hospital.
