SPOKANE, Wash. - We're all going to spend money on gifts in December. Most of us will spend more this month than any other time of the year. But, a little extra knowledge can stretch your dollar a lot further this month.
As it does every month, FatWallet.com compiled a list of what you should buy in December.
First, toys. Of course, parents will buy toys in December. But, the key here is to act quickly. Many retailers dropped prices on the hot toys of the season for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. You need to act fast, as prices won't go any lower and the most popular toys could sell out before Christmas.
Next, gift cards. They're the gift for the person who has everything, right? But, you don't have to get the cards at the store. You can check out Ebay deals for discounts on gift cards, including a $100 iTunes gift card for $80.
Also, December is a good time to buy cookware and kitchen gadgets. Prices on these go up after Thanksgiving, so what you want is probably on sale right now. Watch for Macy's Sunday deals for even deeper discounts.
Finally, if you can hold out, wait until December 16th. That's considered "free shipping day" for many retailers and one of the best days for last-minute deals. You can find out more about which stores are participating by clicking here.
For the truly frugal, post-Christmas clearance sales are a gold mine. But, you don't have to wait until after Christmas. Many of those sales start December 22nd.
