February is National Children's Dental Health Month and the non-profit Operation Healthy Family is hosting a free dental care day for uninsured kids in our area.
OHF is partnering with Northview Family Dental to make this event happen. Give kids a smile is an opportunity to connect uninsured children in our area with the dental care they would otherwise go without.
Paula Williams with OHF is excited about the event, to be held February 7. She's passionate about her quest to get everyone access to care
"What we are trying to do is take a sifter if you would and catch those who are slipping through the cracks and find them a provider who will accept their insurance," she said.
Northview's Dr. Robert Leale is donating his time and talent to make that happen.
"Giving back to the community that supports us and gives us so much," Leale said.
Right now, OHF is only looking for 14 to 20 participants. Eventually, they want this program to grow, adding more dentists and more sponsors in an effort to get the uninsured and under-insured the care they need.
"They're afraid to smile you know, and so some people think they are not a happy person or whatever else, but you know really it's just hard for they're embarrassed about the way they look," Leale said.
