SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane detectives say a car registered to a retired Seattle police officer is responsible for a hit and run that left a South Hill man hobbling around on crutches.
Witnesses say on Monday the driver behind the wheel of a Subaru Outback came screaming into the 7-11 parking lot at 30th and South Regal, almost hit one car, parked at the gas pumps, threw it into reverse and almost backed into the victim's vehicle.
The victim got out of his car to ask the driver what was going on and that's when the suspect flipped him off and said 'I'm going to kill you' and drove at the victim.7-11 road rage vo
The victim managed to avoid the Subaru's bumper but ended up getting pinned between the Outback and another car denting the metal in the driver's side door with his legs and tearing his meniscus.
Witnesses had no trouble remembering the license number because it was a four digit law enforcement memorial plate.
That led investigators to a nearby South Hill home that belongs to a retired Seattle police officer. Surprisingly, the former cop is giving local detectives the runaround about who was driving his car that night.
"Certainly we've been in touch with the registered owner. He hasn't been completely forthcoming with information. He was not the driver at the time so we do not have anyone in custody yet but certainly the investigation is continuing and we're looking at this point to find that suspect," Spokane Police Officer Jennifer DeRuwe said.
Police will now be looking at surveillance video from the 7-11 to get a better idea of who was driving the Subaru that night.
The suspect is described as a 30-year-old white male with brown hair and a cleft chin.
Police plan to charge him with second degree assault and leaving the scene of an injury collision.
