SPOKANE, Wash. - The holiday season is all about giving and there's an easy way you can give the most important gift of all.
Giving blood during this time of year is extremely important. If needles are something you try to avoid, the people at Inland Northwest Blood Center understand. Every part of the donating experience is designed to make you feel at ease.
Marketing and Communications Director Tesia Hummer says after your first time jitters have passed, giving the gift of life is a breeze, and above all else, rewarding.
"It's really beautiful we have people who, despite their other commitments, are making time to come in and save lives by giving the gift of life through blood donations," Hummer said.
Right now, your donations are needed more than ever. INBC provides blood to more than 35 hospitals throughout the Inland Northwest.
"So that's west of Moses Lake all the way to the Idaho panhandle, up to the Canadian border, down through Lewiston," Hummer said.
During the holiday season, the blood center sees on average a 40 percent drop in donations.
"Unfortunately, that comes at a time when we see an increase in need for blood when people are traveling and, unfortunately, getting in more accidents and creating a trauma situation which requires more blood throughout our region," Hummer said.
Donation blood could save the life of someone you know. And if that's not enough to get you through the door, INBC offers a number of incentives to donors. This month they're offering a ski and stay package from Silver Mountain Resort. If you roll up your sleeve, you're automatically entered to win.
