Spokane Police arrest naked burglary suspect

SPOKANE, Wash - Spokane Police arrested a 22-year old man Tuesday night when he was found hiding in a Browne's Addition apartment building.

Apartment dwellers in the 2100 block of West Riverside say they found Trevor Franklin standing half-naked outside their apartment. The man says Franklin was wearing his underwear and the tenant's girlfriend's belt around his neck.

He says Franklin was fondling his genitals and tried to hug the tenant as he was being confronted.

His clothes were inside the apartment, which had been ransacked. The tenants returned Franklin's clothing to him, so he was clothed when police arrived. He was also in possession of items stolen from that apartment.

Franklin, who is a registered sex offender, was booked into the Spokane County Jail for residential burglary.

Police are trying to determine if Franklin is the same man who was caught on camera trying to break into homes on Manito Boulevard earlier this week.

"We are fairly confident it is the same person, but I don't want to say that it is," said Spokane Police Officer Jennifer DeRuwe.

In that case, the would-be burglar was wearing his pants around his ankles. His footprints in the snow indicate he tried to break into at least 15 homes in that area.

"Now that they have caught the guy and it sounds like he's the right guy, hopefully justice will be done," said Dianne Lavalley, who captured the pantless crook on tape earlier this week.

Franklin was in court Wednesday afternoon. A judge set his bond at $50,000; he'll enter a plea next week.
