RIGBY, Idaho - A former councilman for the eastern Idaho city of Rigby has waived his preliminary hearing on felony charges of insurance fraud and grand theft.
Prosecutors say Lawrence Blackburn wrongly took money from the estate of Margaret Orvick, a 91-year-old client of Blackburn's private investment company, Lantech Financial.
The Post Register reports Blackburn waived his preliminary hearing on Tuesday and is now scheduled to face the charges before District Court Judge Gregory Moeller on Aug. 5.
Blackburn resigned from the city council Feb. 5 and moved to Mesa, Ariz., where he was arrested on a warrant in May. Insurance fraud is punishable by up to 15 years in prison and grand theft is punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
