Court candidate says she wants to decide religious cases

BILLINGS, Mont. - A Montana Supreme Court candidate told a colleague at the University of Montana that she believes the court will be dealing with a lot of freedom-of-religion cases, and she wants to be a part of making those decisions.

Kristen Juras also asks the recipient of the Dec. 8 email to pray that she acts in a way that honors God during her campaign.

The Billings Gazette reports the email was released to attorney John Heenan through a public-records request. Heenan supports a political committee that backs Juras' opponent, District Judge Dirk Sandefur.

He says the email shows that Juras cannot be a fair and impartial judge.

Juras says religious freedom is just one of several subjects she is interested in that she expects to come before the court.
