ANACORTES, Wash. - Acting on a tip from a tugboat, a Coast Guard crew has rescued three kayakers who ran into trouble in Rosario Strait west of Anacortes, Washington.
The Coast Guard reports that the rescue boat first pulled in one male kayaker who had capsized and a second who was still in his kayak. Those two were quickly transferred Thursday evening to emergency medical crews in Anacortes. The man who had been in the water was reportedly suffering signs of hypothermia.
Petty Officer 1st Class David Mosley says the Coast Guard crew then headed out to Strawberry Island, where a third kayaker -- a woman -- had managed to paddle ashore and was stranded. She, too, was taken to Anacortes.
Neither the woman nor the second man reported any injuries.
The kayakers said a change in current led to the capsizing. All were wearing life jackets.
