BILLINGS, Mont. - Bombers from Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City, S.D., are practicing approaches to the runway of the Billings Logan International Airport in Montana.
Aviation director Tom Binford says the pilots are practicing maneuvers at the Billings airport because the terrain and winds differ from Ellsworth, giving pilots a chance to learn new tactics.
According to the Billings Gazette, the supersonic bombers have been using the airport over the last month and a half. Binford says it's common practice for commercial companies testing airplanes or training pilots to use public airports for practice maneuvers.
