Astoria manhole cover blows, hits worker in head

A worker suffered a traumatic head injury when he was hit by a manhole cover that popped up during water pressure testing.

A second worker had minor injuries and both were taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital.

The Daily Astorian reports it happened Wednesday afternoon as contractors were testing water pipe pressure.

The pressure unexpectedly lifted a manhole cover out of the street.
