COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - It's the first sign that summer is on the way: Silverwood, the northwest's largest theme park, unveiled two new rides at a press conference Tuesday in Coeur d'Alene.
"We wanted something new and different," said Silverwood Marketing and PR executive Nancy DiGiammarco.
One is a family-friendly ride called the Barnstormer. The other, a yet-to-be-named experience for thrill seekers, sends riders over 100 feet in the air to experience nearly 4 Gs of pressure.18242254
Originally the ride was going to be a twin of its counter part in Sweden, but DiGiammarco says it wasn't big enough.
"After talking about it, we were like 'No, we need something spectacular. A major thrill ride that'll be different from anything else people can experience in the country,'" she said.
The park is also asking visitors to take a crack at naming the $2 Million ride through a contest they're launching on their website Wednesday. The winner gets park merchandise, two gold passes for the season and a chance to be first in line for a ride.
DiGiammarco also said the new rides are expected to boost attendance to over 700,000 visitors this year.
"We're hoping that, again, this creates excitement across the country and we get some amazing names," she said.
A groundbreaking for the rides' construction is scheduled for February with the rides ready to go by spring.
