One dead in Sandpoint officer-involved shooting

SANDPOINT, Idaho - The Bonner County Sheriff's Office confirms one man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Sandpoint Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting happened at approximately 3 p.m. in the 1000 block of Ruth Avenue and involved both sheriff's deputies and Sandpoint police officers.

Police aren't sure what led up to the shooting and are not commenting on why the officers and deputies were at the address to begin with.

"We are so early right now in the preliminary stages of the investigation, you know the detectives just arrived on scene a little bit ago," said Lt. Stu Miller with the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office.

The will, however, say that the man who was shot dies from his injuries on the way to the hospital. Neighbors told KXLY 4 that they heard several shots fired.

Detectives will continue to process the scene throughout the night.
