Drug bust leads to shooting near Coeur d'Alene Casino

KOOTENAI COUNTY - The Coeur d'Alene Police department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred near the Coeur d'Alene Casino Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened at The Tribal Conoco Station around 3:20 p.m. today.

The DEA along with Idaho State Police were doing an undercover drug bust but things took a turn when officers tried to arrest a 41-year-old white male for buying methamphetamine.

The man took off in his Dodge truck and led officers on a short pursuit.

"The suspect started to evade and at one point aggressed on the officers," Sgt. Christie Wood with the Coeur d'Alene Police said.

An officer then fired one shot at the suspect's truck. Spike strips were also used to get the man to stop his vehicle.

The suspect sustained a minor injury and is now getting checked out at Kootenai Medical Center.

"It's really more like a welt and it could have been just from the shrapnel from the vehicle but because of that he has been transported to KMC for evaluation and they will look him over head to toe to make sure nothing is wrong," Sgt. Wood said.

The suspect will then be booked into jail. He is now facing drug trafficking charges.

The Coeur d'Alene Casino sent out a statement Tuesday night that said the casino will continue operating as normal. It also said officers worked quickly to quash any potential danger to employees and customers.
