Couples tie the knot on 12/12/12

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - 12 / 12 / 12 -- It's an anniversary date so rare you won't see it again for another century. Whether the date is symbolic to couples or just seems like good luck, the staff at the Hitching Post in Coeur d'Alene was keeping busy Wednesday.

Wednesday was the first for many things. At the Hitching Post, couples entered the room, stood across from each other, held hands and exchange vows meant to last a lifetime.

But Wednesday held a special significance as it gave couples the once in a lifetime chance to marry on a special date: 12 / 12 / 12.

"It's supposed to be one of the luckiest days," Devin and Wendy Beach said.

The Hitching Post was tying three times as many knots than they typically do on a Wednesday. Especially when the clock struck 12.

"She was born on the 12th, both my brothers were born on the 12th," Mike Nielsen said of his wife Teri.

What happens here is happening all over. In Las Vegas, thousands were expected to tie the knot Wednesday. A Vegas wedding chapel website said couples getting married on a date with 12 is balanced and lucky, so here's to fun filled weddings and long lasting love.

"I'm really happy. I've always wanted to marry her," Devin Beach said.

But during the critical moments of a wedding the date, the time, didn't matter, as long as those in love were able to walk away, hand in hand, sharing a once in a lifetime moment together.
