Court records released Wednesday show a Coeur d'Alene High School teacher accused of raping and molesting a young family member admitted that he touched the child and that he did so for sexual gratification.
Daniel Taylor, a teacher at Venture High School, was arrested Monday and charged with rape and lewd conduct, charges that carry a possible sentence of life in prison.
The court records contain extremely graphic and disturbing descriptions of what the child and Taylor told police; for that reason, we will only describe what was said in general terms.
Court records say the child came forward and disclosed the allegations to a parent and a therapist. When confronted by police, Taylor initially denied the allegations and blamed the accusations on a "sexually over active" child.
When questioned further, he admitted initiating sexual contact with the child. When asked if he told the child to keep it a secret, he said, "I probably said that, yeah." He said he probably told the child, "Don't say anything so I don't get into trouble."
When pressed once more by police, Taylor said, "Everything that [the child] says is true."
Taylor is being held on $50,000 bond on rape and lewd conduct charges. He's been placed on administrative leave from the school district pending the outcome of the investigation.
