Coeur d'Alene police investigating drive-by shooting

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - cda drive-by

Coeur d'Alene Police are looking for a suspect in a drive by shooting late Sunday night at the Coeur d'Alene Manor Apartments near 2nd Street and Anton Avenue.

They believe it was a random act since the apartments are a senior care facility.

As police arrived at the scene, their first priority was to make sure all of the tenants were OK. None of the residents were hit but some living at the apartments were very shaken up by the shooting.

"This is a senior and disability unit so you know my first concern is about the tenants," property manager Stacey Vahey said.

Vahey came in Monday to check on her tenants. Many are hard of hearing while some have developmental disabilities.

"It's horrifying; first of all any drive by shooting is terrible. I am just thankful there were trees in the way to stop some of the bullets from entering the homes," Vahey said.

Police had little to go on except for a vehicle description; a dark red, four-door Toyota Corolla that witnesses said drove north on 2nd Street, turned around at the end of the street, and started heading south, with someone inside the vehicle firing several rounds at the building.

No one was able to get a glimpse of the shooting suspect.

"We do have casings left on the scene; they will try to identify a motive and a possible suspect description," Coeur d'Alene Police Lieutenant Lee Brainard said.

For now this random, senseless act has several residents considering moving out.

"I wanna move out. It's pretty scary. I heard it last night it was pretty loud," resident Randy Kirkcaldy said.

"I think I am going to move out," resident Dwayne Paul said.

If you have any information on this drive-by shooting you're asked to call the Coeur d'Alene Police Department at (208) 769-2296. Crimestoppers is offering a cash reward for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect.
