Arrest warrant issued for rape suspect

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Coeur d'Alene Police have issued an arrest warrant for a rape suspect who was involved in a 9-hour standoff with authorities on Monday.

Police have filed the warrant for Michael Nixon, 31, on charges of kidnapping, rape and lewd conduct with a minor. His bond on the charges was set at $500,000.

Nixon is in custody at Kootenai Medical Center, where he is being treated for non-life threatening self-inflicted wounds. Once he is released from KMC he will be transferred to the Kootenai County Jail.

He was taken into custody late Monday evening when, after a 9-hour standoff, the SWAT team entered the residence at 2023 N. 7th Street where he had been holed up and found him hiding in the basement.

Police said the victim, a minor family member, told authorities she had been held against her will for several hours and was able to get out of the house after Nixon fell asleep. She was treated at Kootenai Medical Center for serious injuries.
