SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Shannon Duval, the mother of the two children found abandoned along Interstate 90 near state line Tuesday morning, said she has no recollection of how they ended up there or how she got back to Spokane Valley.
Shannon Duval, who is also known as Shannon Germanton, was located Tuesday night at a Spokane Valley residence and arrested on a negligent driving warrant in Spokane County.
During a Wednesday court hearing on the negligent driving charge, Duval's judge said she would be held without bail until her next court hearing due to her failure to appear in court so many times in the past.Shannon Duval first appearance
Duval did tell investigators, when interviewed about her children, that the last thing she remembered was being in a Post Falls Walmart with her two boys, ages 3 and 6, Monday night. She said that she couldn't remember what happened over the next 24 hours.
What happened, according to authorities, was that her two children were found by construction workers huddled together wet, barefoot and cold near the Beck Road interchange. Eyewitnesses say that Duval managed to find her way to Jacklin Seed, where an employee gave her a ride to an Exxon gas station under the guise that she needed to get to a phone to call for a ride as she had been involved in an argument with her boyfriend.
After she was dropped off at the gas station Duval walked away.
Officers were searching for Duval throughout the day Tuesday until an anonymous tip led them to her home on South David Street in Spokane Valley. She was arrested on the outstanding Spokane County warrant for negligent driving and taken into custody.
While she was facing a Spokane County court on the negligent driving charge, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department issued a warrant for two counts of felony injury to a child. She will remain in Spokane County until her case on the negligent driving charge is resolved. At that point she will be extradited to Kootenai County on the felony injury to child warrants.
The two boys are now in foster care.
