ENTIAT, Wash. - Evacuation orders are in effect for areas around Mills Canyon due to a large wildfire.
The "Mills Canyon Fire" is located approximately four miles west of Entiat. The fire is now estimated to be upwards of 5,000 acres.
A level three evacuation is in effect for Mills Canyon and Dinkleman Canyon. Level three evacuations mean residents should leave immediately because danger to your current area is imminent.
A level two evacuation is in effect from milepost 1.5 on the Entiat River Road to Dinkleman Canyon, meaning residents should be ready to leave. Residents can voluntarily relocate.
Level one evacuations have been issued for Swakane Canyon, Sherman Canyon and US 97A from Swakane to Entiat River Road.
Firefighters from Washington Department of Natural Resources, Chelan County Fire Districts and U.S. Forest Service worked through the night Tuesday into Wednesday.
Approximately 250 firefighters and 15 fire engines are battling the flames located on private, DNR and Forest Service lands. Three air tankers from Moses Lake, a heavy helicopter and three medium helicopters have been dispatched to the fire to assist ground resources now on scene at the fire.
The fire started Tuesday afternoon around 12:20 and is burning in grass, brush and timber stringers in drainages.
