Icy roads make for dangerous commute

SPOKANE, Wash. - Icy roads in Northeast Spokane gave commuters a rough time getting to work Monday morning.

It was not an ideal start to the work week for those that call North Argonne and Bigelow Gulch part of their commute as icy road conditions delayed traffic in certain spots for well over an hour.

Bigelow Gulch was closed from Argonne to North Forker from around 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. after several cars slid off the road. It was about 7 a.m. when a truck slid off of Bigelow Gulch west of Argonne, forcing cars to stay put on the east-west thoroughfare for an hour. Spokane County claims to have de-iced the section of road over the weekend, but vows to increase shifts for now to stay ahead of the ice.

Crew members will start at 4 a.m. until temperatures rise above freezing overnight. Fortunately, there were no injuries to report Monday morning.
