Funeral for confessed killer in Deer Park Sunday

SPOKANE, Wash. - The funeral an admitted serial killer who claimed killing up to 7 people across the country will be held in Deer Park Sunday.

Israel Keyes lived in Colville for a period of time. He was arrested in Texas for the murder of an 18-year-old Anchorage, AK. barista. Before he killed himself in jail, Keyes admitted to dismembering her body and putting it in a frozen lake.

When police caught up with Keyes in Texas he was using the credit card of Samantha Koenig, the Anchorage woman who he raped, murdered, dismembered and hid in a frozen lake. Later, while in prison in Alaska, Keyes admitted to killing four people in Washington as well as a Vermont couple.

Detectives believe he is responsible for killing many others; in fact he told police that he was on the hunt for more victims.

Since his death, Keyes' body has been released to his family, who is now planning on holding his funeral in Deer Park. According to the Anchorage Daily News, Deer Park would be most convenient for the family.

The Keyes family pastor, Jake Gardner, said the family ran into trouble in Montana when their van crashed. But that's not the only trouble they may face.

On Friday, someone from Anchorage left a message at Deer Park City Hall asking the city to stop the funeral.

The funeral  home where KXLY believes the ceremony will be held would not confirm or deny the arrangements but the family did say they wanted a funeral home with an attached chapel.
