Former teacher gets year in jail for molesting student, 10

RITZVILLE, Wash. - Davis sentenced vo

Lisa Davis, a former Othello teacher who pleaded guilty last month to molesting a 10-year-old student, was sentenced Monday.

Facing a judge, but not her victim or his family, Davis cried while reading a short statement before her sentencing.

"I want to apologize for the extensive pain I've caused. I've spent my entire life trying to be kind and helpful to others," she said.

An Adams County Superior Court judge sentenced Davis to 51 months, with 12 months confinement and 36 months of sex offender sentencing alternative, which will be out of custody sex offender treatment.

Davis pleaded guilty in September to first-degree child molestation for molesting one of her 10-year-old students at Scootney Springs Elementary School, where she was a fifth-grade teacher.

In late 2012, Davis, 48, started an inappropriate relationship with the boy, who was in her class. It wasn't until May of 2013 that a school district employee alerted police to the suspicious activity.

"I would also like to apologize to the other family in this situation. I take full responsibility for my actions," Davis said.

According to court documents, Davis admitted to her family that she had kissed the boy, touched his genitalia and allowed him to touch her breasts.

The judge at Monday's said the father of the victim did not make a statement but had indicated he wanted to see Davis go to jail for what she did.

The family of the boy has filed a notice of intent to file a claim against the Othello School District for failing to protect the victim. An attorney for the victim and his family said they would be seeking $1 million in compensation.
