SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - A mother's intuition help save her four-year-old boy from almost being kidnaped out of their backyard Wednesday afternoon in Spokane Valley.
"It was really scary," said Arreal Blakesley.
Just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, four-year-old Gauge and his brother Ryker were playing in their backyard on the corner of Sprague and Harmony in Spokane Valley when a stranger approached their fence.
"I was inside cooking dinner, my kids were playing outside and I just had a really bad feeling to go look outside," she said . "I leaned over our back deck and looked outside and a guy was leaning over our fence trying to take our four-year-old son."Child nearly abducted from Spokane Valley backyard
Blakesley said she ran to Gauge and Ryker and asked the man what he was doing.
"And the guy just said 'I was lifting him over the front fence,' over our backyard. And he goes 'I noticed you had two little boys' and then he just took off running," she said.
Blakesley said she had never seen the man in her neighborhood before.
"The only thing I could think of was if I wasn't there thirty seconds that second, if I would've waited one minute or anything he would've been gone," she said.
Blakesley hopes parents will use their story as an opportunity to teach their kids not to talk to strangers.
"Be aware of who's around and that your kids are where they are supposed to be and keep them as safe as possible," she said.
The suspect is described as a 30-year-old white male, wearing a red fleece with a bowl style haircut.
