A train derailed and caught fire in downtown Lynchburg, Va., Wednesday, leading to the evacuation of numerous buildings, The Associated Press reported.

Between 12 and 14 cars carrying crude oil were on the train and were causing "extensive flames and dense black smoke," Lynchburg officials said on the city’s website.

People in the general area had been evacuated, officials said.

Officials also said there were no reported injuries and the cause of the derailment was not known.
