RITZVILLE, Wash. -

The Washington State Patrol says a young woman died as a result of a car crash on Interstate 90 near Ritzville early Sunday morning.

Troopers say 21-year-old Mitchell B. Confer was driving west on I-90 in a 1985 Honda Civic at about 2:00 a.m., near the Tokio exit, when investigators say he began to fall asleep.

Troopers say Confer drifted off the road and into the median, where the car then rolled several times before coming to rest in the left lane of the interstate.

The crash killed Confer's passenger, 21-year-old Sasha N. Peters of Tacoma.

Confer was also injured in the crash, he was taken by ambulance to Ritzville Hospital.

Investigators say both Confer and Peters were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Troopers say charges are pending against Confer for his role in the crash.
