PULLMAN -

Two pedestrians were hit by a car while in a crosswalk near the Washington State University campus early Monday morning, sending both to the hospital.

The first person was hit at about 7:30 a.m. in front of Goldsworthy Hall and the second about 200 yards away near Wegner Hall. Both were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. WSU Police Chief Bill Gardner said they suffered multiple trauma but their injuries are not life-threatening.

The driver of the car stopped at the corner of Grimes and Stadium Way where he left his car and attempted to flee on foot. He was arrested near McCoy Hall a short time later, WSU Police Chief Bill Gardner said in a statement.

?We tried to take him into custody there was a bit of a struggle,? Lieutenant Steve Hansen with the WSU Police Department said.

?Law enforcement had to eventually taze him to get him in control, in custody and into a patrol car,? Sergeant Brad Hudson with the Washington State Patrol added.

Police say before the pedestrians were hit someone called 911 to report the driver for erratic driving.

The Washington State Patrol identified the driver as Daniel Noble, 31, a married University of Idaho employee. Noble underwent a mental evaluation after his arrest; authorities believe he may have had some sort of psychotic episode.

The two victims were identified late Monday afternoon as 23-year-old WSU student Hougun Hahm and 19-year-old WSU student Neal Waldbjorn. Both are expected to be OK.
