SPOKANE, Wash. -

Spokane will pay more than $20,000 to Karl Thompson for money owed to him following his resignation from the Spokane Police Department.

Thompson, who was convicted of using excessive force and lying to investigators regarding the Otto Zehm case, will be paid $21,877.03 for money owed to him.

Before being fired by the city last week, Thompson chose to resign, but will still be paid for sick and vacation time he accumulated during his tenure with the Spokane Police Department.

The money he will receive includes just over $13,000 in sick time, approximately $7,000 in vacation time and about $800 in comp time.
