Thompson Conviction Upheld
A federal judge today denied a request to overturn the conviction of former Spokane Police Officer Karl Thompson.
Attorney Karl Oreskovich wanted Judge Fred Van Sickle to acquit Thompson of using excessive force in the beating of Otto Zehm in 2006. A jury in Yakima convicted Thompson of that charge last month and of lying to investigators. But, Oreskovich contends there was not enough evidence to show Thompson acted with bad intent. The judge denied the request and upheld the conviction.
Thompson is out of jail awaiting sentencing, set for January.
