SPOKANE, Wash. -

A major retail announcement is expected Thursday in Spokane, as multiple sources confirm Trader Joe's will announce its building a store on the South Hill.

A Facebook page dedicated to bringing Trader Joe's to Spokane first reported rumors of the announcement Wednesday afternoon.

Trader Joe's would not return calls for comment, but multiple sources close to the project say the company will announce the location Thursday. Those sources say the store will be built in the Lincoln Heights Shopping Center on 29th Avenue.

The City of Spokane confirms they had a preliminary meeting with architects several weeks ago. The discussion centered on tearing down a building and adding 12,000 square feet to an existing building.

No tenants or developers were named during that meeting.

The California-based grocery store chain operates more than 300 stores across the country with the highest concentration of stores in Southern California. Most locations are between 8,000 and 12,000 square feet.

The store sells most of the same type of items as a regular grocery store, but most of the products are sold under the Trader Joe's brand.
