Idaho lawmakers have approved a controversial plan to overhaul the state's education system.
The Idaho Senate passed two bills that will eliminate tenure for new teachers and restrict collective bargaining among teacher unions.
Lawmakers also voted to introduce merit pay.
The legislation is among three bills that make up public schools Chief Tom Luna's plan to overhaul Idaho's education system.
The biggest piece of the plan is still being looked at by the Senate.
If passed, it will boost technology in the classroom while requiring high school students to pass six online courses.
