LC student killed in crash near Inchelium Ferry Landing
A Lewis and Clark High School student was killed in a single car crash over the weekend near the Inchelium ferry landing.
School officials confirm that Dillon Simpson was headed to Inchelium to visit friends and was likely trying to make the ferry when he crashed on Addy-Gifford Road near the ferry landing.
The crash wasn't discovered until 9 a.m. Sunday when a driver passing by the scene spotted Dillon's car and called 9-1-1. It's not known yet when Dillon crashed. Dispatchers did say that the stretch of road where he crashed is exceptionally windy.
School officials told faculty, staff and students of Dillon's death Monday morning at 10:30 and had grief counselors on hand for anyone who needed assistance.
Dillon is a member of the Lewis and Clark Tigers Football Team and is originally from Inchelium. He attended school in Inchelium until the 7th grade when his family moved to Spokane. He transferred to LC from Mt. Spokane his junior year and as a senior he was a starting linebacker for the Tigers.
Football Coach Dave Hughes Dillon was says he was popular right away and that teammates fed off his enthusiasm.
A memorial service for Dillon has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Inchelium Community Center. The service will be open to the public.
