An FBI SWAT Team executed several early morning raids across Coeur d?Alene Tuesday morning as part of a federal drug bust of a ring that was trafficking marijuana and cocaine.
A home at 9th and Homestead was one of the properties raided by federal agents Tuesday. FBI agents also served a search warrant at Chillers, a night club located in the 1900 block of Sherman Avenue.
Witnesses there say the agents seized a number of items from the night club as evidence including gambling equipment. As of Tuesday afternoon Chillers remained closed.
Also involved in the raids were agents with the DEA and troopers with the Idaho State Police, who seized assets at a home that, according to a neighbor, belongs to Coeur d?Alene resident James O?Neill.
An FBI SWAT Team made entry into O?Neill?s home and safeguarded a 10-year-old boy inside who was home sick from school. After securing the residence federal agents began towing away a boat, truck, several snowmobiles and some go carts.
The United States alleges that all of those items were ill-gotten proceeds from a drug-dealing ring that trafficked both marijuana and cocaine.
In addition to the raids on O?Neill?s home and Chiller?s several people were arrested. The search warrants for the raids were obtained after a federal grand jury indicted O?Neill and several co-defendants.
The defendants, who have not been identified as of Tuesday afternoon, will appear before a magistrate in Coeur d?Alene Wednesday morning.
