Church student leader arrested on sex abuse claims
A volunteer student leader from a popular North Idaho church was arrested last week and charged with several counts of sexual abuse of young girls.
Post Falls Police say Jordan Vernon, 20, was a student leader at Real Life Ministries in Post Falls. In 2008 police began an investigation into Vernon after they received reports he was making inappropriate sexual advances to a 12-year-old member of the congregation.
Vernon was charged with battery, but the charges were later dismissed.
Then in April of 2009 police were again asked to investigate Vernon when two Real Life Ministries employees told them they were concerned that Vernon was having inappropriate sexual relations with another church member.
In that case police say they found pictures on MySpace of Vernon engaged in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl. Police also say Jordan was having sexual relations with another 17-year-old church member.
Vernon has been charged with Crimes Against Nature, Lewd Conduct with a Child Under 16, Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 16 and Statutory Rape. He was arrested last week and subsequently posted a $25,000 bond.
Additionally police say Vernon's brother, Luke Denman, intimidated one of the witnesses and has been charged on that offense.
Vernon has been relieved of his duties from Real Life Ministries.
