Booth To Plead Insanity At Feist Murder Trial
Not guilty by reason of insanity is the defense 26-year-old Eric Booth wants to plead for the shooting of Gordon Feist, which isn't sitting well with his family.
The family watched in court as the suspected killer of their dad and husband, shuffled into the courtroom, found themselves shocked to learn what he did, and they can't believe Booth wants to try and prove he's not guilty by reason of insanity.
"How could he do something like that? It was pitiful actually. I just don't understand," Gordon's wife, Denise Ridley Feist, said.
When she heard the news about Gordon's killing her world came crashing down.
"Just ruined my life the way he's done," Denise said.
The Stevens County Sheriff said Booth, who may have worked for Feist at one time, was robbing his home when Feist returned home. Booth concocted a story about running out of gas, but when Feist gave booth a ride in his UTV to fill up the imaginary car Booth knew his game was up so he allegedly shot Feist in the head twice...
"I don't understand how someone could take my best friend," Denise said, adding that she if Booth had just asked for help her husband "would have given him everything he had plus extra. You know, he just was like that."
In court Tuesday Booth's attorney asked for a mental evaluation, the plan being for Booth to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.
"Anybody that calculated doing what he did, knew what he was doing, that I feel strongly about," Denise said.
That process could take as long as 90 days. In the meantime the Feist family says they'll start to put the pieces back together and hoping to grow a new life.
"I'm going to fulfill my husband's dreams of keeping the property going and making all his beautiful gardens even more beautiful," Denise said.
Feist's family says there is a small silver lining in all of this in that Gordon was an organ donor. Now thanks to him someone will get their sight, someone will get to breathe better and someone else will get a much-needed kidney.
