SPOKANE COUNTY -

A fast moving storm dumped several inches of snow across the Inland Northwest Saturday closing several roads and causing dozens of crashes.

"Terrible, extremely high winds, white out conditions, it's scary, it's scary," said John Johnson as he waited out the storm along Highway 195.

Johnson and his family were heading south on Highway 195 when white out conditions forced them to pull off the road.

"We were trying to go to Walla Walla but we're not going to make it, not going to make it, it's time to turn around," he said

And, it's a good thing Johnson did. A few miles south of where he turned around Washington State Patrol responded to a multi car pileup. The crash and blizzard conditions forced WSP to shut down the highway until 4:30 p.m.

In the Spokane Valley, Argonne and Bigelow Gulch were closed for several hours because the road was too trecherous to travel.

"It's just terrible, if you don't have to go out, I highly reccomend you don't," said Deputy Craig Chamberlin with the Spokane County Sherriff's Office.

Deputy Chamberlin said drivers are forgetting about how to drive in winter weather.

"Folks just driving too fast. It's Spokane, we have snow every winter. Roads are slick. We need to adjust our speed and following distance," he said.

The intersection of Freya and 17th was also shutdown for several hours as a tow truck worked to remove a truck from Dejan Nozinic's front yard.

"The lady who drive the truck, she tried turning around you know couple circles you know and, couple seconds after that she just hit my patio," he said.
