SPOKANE, Wash. -- It's okay to feel like you don't need God ... that's the message one local group is trying to spread, one STA bus at a time.

The message that they're putting up on STA buses reads "Are you good without God? Millions are." The ad went up on 11 buses Monday.

"We wanted to make a statement, we are here, we are friendly, we are good people," Thomas J. Brown said.

These powerful words will be roaming all over the streets of Spokane from a new ad campaign launched by the Spokane Coalition of Reason.

"It's definitely going to give us more visibility, maybe more members, more acceptance in the community," Brown said.

Brown, who is with the Spokane Secular Society, says they don't want to upset anyone with their campaign; they just think it's time their community has a voice.

"All the Christian groups and different religious groups actually are making themselves known, making their statements known, we wanted to let other non-theists know there is a community for them too," Brown said.

Wendy Strong is a religious woman who thinks it's OK for the ads to be placed on the buses

"If that's what they want to put on the bus, fine," she said, adding that in the end she thinks it will give Christians like herself more power.

"That advertisement is something that Christians can look at and just give them more opportunity to pray for the public," Strong said.

As the buses come in and out of the STA Plaza, Molly Myers with STA says that it's important to know they don't endorse or condone any of the ads.

"This happens to be an ad campaign that falls under the First Amendment freedom of speech. We have no ad policy that prohibits this type of ad," Myers said.

The Spokane Coalition of Reason says the ads will continue run through September 25 and that this campaign is part of a larger national one with similar ads being placed on buses in 25 states since 2009.
