The city of Rathdrum is enjoying a boom of big ticket projects that the mayor says will bring in jobs, people and money.

The list of new projects is lengthy, from a new fire station, to a new charter school, to a new park.

“This will help turn us from that bedroom community into the professional community that we want to become,” Mayor Vic Holmes said.

A new science center and technical professional campus are also in the works.

Three school districts, Coeur d'Alene, Lakeland and Post Falls are coming together to build the Kootenai County technical campus.

They picked Rathdrum because it is centrally located for the students to get the training they need and hope to break ground this fall.

The new technical professional campus goes hand in hand with plans for a science center that is also set to open next year. Discover Technology is working on a 20,000 square foot center.

The mayor says finances are tough for everyone, but that also means building costs have gone down.

The city is partially funding a new park, paying for phases of work when it can afford it.

“We analyzed what it would cost us now and what it would cost us 5 years ago, well it's significantly cheaper,” mayor Vic Holms said.

The mayor is calling this a very exciting time and says these projects may attract more businesses to Rathdrum and hopes it's a chance for people to stay in the city for their careers.
