RIVERSIDE STATE PARK -- This Labor Day weekend’s cooler temperatures, a few showers and a little wind weren't enough to keep anglers from enjoying the holiday. While cooler temperatures might have kept some from heading down to Riverfront Park for Pig Out In The Park, and a few showers may have encouraged campers to pack up and head home early, but for guys like Scott Inman the weather was “perfect for fishing.”“It’s not hot and sunny and all your jet skiers and pleasure boaters are going to be staying home today … it’s on baby,” he said.
“We're gonna go out today and get some small mouth bass,” fisherman Pat Espinosa said. When these guys arrived at the lake temperatures were hovering just south of 50 degrees.“That's what fishing’s about. We've got clothes to keep us warm,” Espinosa said.Mike Harrison cast his first line just after sunrise and expected a much busier day on Long Lake.“It’s really surprising, there was a lot more people here yesterday,” Harrison said.“With the windy days I think people quit camping and went in, so no one wanted to fight with it,” Pat Espinosa said. The only thing these guys wanted to fight with today is a bass, though Mike Harrison mentioned that the “Catch of the Day [is] more Milfoil.”Whether its cloudy or sunny these guys know they have to enjoy every minute with fall just a few weeks away.
