A long-time Spokane criminal who has claimed dozens of victims over the years is heading out on his third trip to the state penitentiary.

Even though he’s just 35, the number of convictions under Casey Beckham’s belt sits at 36.

Whenever he’s not in jail or prison Beckham makes a habit of picking the community clean to support his drug addiction.

“He's committed so many crimes and is such an active criminal in our community that he receives special attention anytime he's out on the streets and contacted by police,” Spokane County Sheriff Sergeant Dave Reagan said.

That's why the sheriff's Property Crimes Task Force assigned a detective just to working Beckham’s series of on-going break-ins. When he wasn't selling meth Beckham was selling stolen firearms; when investigators tracked him down to a northside apartment complex they called in the SWAT Team. It took several hours to flush Beckham out from his hiding spot in the attic.

“He's the one who puts the broken glass on the street where you park your car. He's the guy that forges your check at the Quickie Mart. He's the guy who steals your snow blower out of your garage,” Sgt. Reagan said. “He’s just one of those people that really needs to go away for a long time.”

Superior Court Judge Maryann Moreno handed Beckham a 12-year sentence during a Thursday hearing. Beckham explained to the court that he can't remember a time when he wasn't addicted to drugs and vows to get treatment behind bars.

“In some instances the only way to protect society is to put that suspect away for lengthy periods of time because you know if he's on the street, he's committing crime.” Reagan explained.

Beckham will be middle-aged before the next time he's released from prison.
