Police say they have captured the man responsible for a kidnapping and extortion case hiding at a Post Falls tavern.

Police say Joshua Moses, 28, of Spokane was wanted in connection with a reported kidnapping of Josh Benham. Moses allegedly kidnapped Benham on Saturday and held him captive for several days, extorting his family for his release.

Benham’s family eventually paid $2,500 for Josh’s release.

Officers investigating the case went to a home located at 204 W. 17th and found Moses armed with a handgun. The officers backed off and called in the SWAT Team.

Initially, police weren't sure Moses was inside the home. Officers left the back of the home uncovered for several minutes while waiting for the SWAT team to arrive.

Officers found no sign of Moses when they searched his home late Thursday evening.

Police checked another location where Moses had been spotted earlier in the day at a trailer home near the Spokane River. There police found a backpack possibly belonging to Moses but no sign of him.

Acting on a tip, officers showed up to the Falls Club tavern on Seltice Way. There officers arrested Moses after finding him hiding in the kitchen.

Moses has been taken to the Kootenai County Jail.

Police say the victim, Josh Benham , has been arrested as well on an unrelated drug charge.
