Trio charged in Cheney drive-by make court appearance

SPOKANE -- Three teenagers charged in the Cheney drive-by shooting that wounded an Eastern Washington University student appeared in court Thursday.
blog comments powered by DisqusDamon Morris, Trevien Mims and Lewis and Clark High School student Clovy Jaramillo have all been charged as adults for the early Sunday morning shooting. The victim says he exchanged words with three men in a passing car and one of them shot at the student.A bullet penetrated his hand, but his cell phone protected his leg from injury.In court Thursday all three of the suspects' parents were in court to urge Judge Ellen Clark to reduce their bond.“I don’t know what happened that night I just want you to know, its not his nature, he’s not a violent kid,” Jennifer Morris, Damon Morris’ mother, said.“His behavior has always been very good and kind he’s been very good in school,” Trevien Mims’ grandmother Kathy Tomlinson said.Citing no previous convictions and family support Judge Clark reduced the bonds for all three. Jaramillo and Mims face a $25,000 bond however Morris's bond was set at $30,000. On top of his role in the drive-by shooting he is also charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
