SPOKANE -- On Friday a local espresso stand owner decided to offer up a way for people to enjoy great coffee for a good cause, offering free coffee drinks to whoever made a donation to the Red Cross for Haiti relief. The response she got was overwhelming.

Deb was overwhelmed with the response.“I counted it twice, it's over $1,700, and I had to hang onto [it] all weekend, I slept with it under my pillow I kept having dreams I was going to lose it,” Deb said, recounting how one girl came in and asked for a hot chocolate and donated $80.“She goes ‘I need an 80 dollar hot chocolate’,” Deb laughed. Monday morning Deb delivered a bucket full of cash to the Inland Northwest chapter of the American Red Cross.“Incredibly impressive, it's phenomenal the amount of money you raised in one day, that's incredible, lots of coffee folks in Spokane, that's for sure,” Kevin Platt with the Red Cross said.Deb said it’s a credit to the generosity of the community.“We were so surprised at how many people came in and how many were so generous that people came in and would donate a good amount of money for one drink,” she said.
