SPOKANE -- Six months ago reconstruction started on the Freya Bridge. While road crews are making progress the road is still torn apart, leaving many businesses without their solitary lifeline from the customers.
blog comments powered by DisqusThe bridge crosses the railroad lines and connects north Spokane to south Spokane and with it gone there’s a lot of traffic that’s just not traveling down Freya anymore.Last July an espresso stand and Wing Sales, which sells safes, were interviewed to discuss the potential impact on their businesses.Six months later the espresso stand is gone and replaced by a drive thru BBQ restaurant. As for Wing Sales, they’ve seen a dramatic drop in sales since the bridge reconstruction project began.“The bridge being closed has taken traffic down to almost nothing,” Dan Wing said. “Yeah it does suck.”Wing says their sales are down significantly because of the bridge, people just aren't driving by and stopping in anymore.Additionally he says that when someone calls and is trying to get to the business its next to impossible to explain to someone how to get there with the bridge gone. The earliest the reconstruction project could be completed is late May but odds are it won’t be until later in the summer.
